Cannons might as well have gone off with the recent announcement that Amazon will fold publishing into its expansive–and seemingly ever-expanding—catalogue of services. The company already has a strong hold on the sale of millions of books, in addition to the production of eBook readers. The idea…
[I for one, do not think this is a healthy future for no-named writers trying to make it in the book biz.]
Many of you have sent me messages and have responded to my announcement of opening a bookstore. Let me qualify my announcement. First, I do not intend to open a bookstore that sells new books. My intent is to open a second-hand bookstore, with a lot of character and style. Second, I have been planning and thinking about this for several years now, so this is not a new development. Third, it will be at least three years before the doors open (probably closer to five years), this will give me a chance to navigate the bookselling landscape and see how the digital market will affect physical book sales. Fourth, location is essential, so I have several places in mind. My current location is not one them. Lastly, the internet is my friend, so the shop will be online for anyone to order books from any location.
Thanks for those of you who have sent encouraging words. Cheers!
